Basic Guide to Magic the Gathering: Introduction

What is Magic: The Gathering?
Magic: The Gathering, often shortened to Magic or MTG, is a collectable trading card game created by Richard Garfield and released by Wizards of the Coast in 1993. As a player, you create a deck, often refered to as a library, from which to draw cards used to cast spells, such as creatures and artifacts, to defeat your opponents by lowering their life points to zero, forcing them to run out of cards, or by meeting specific card conditions. Magic is partly a fantasy role-playing game and partly a pencil-and-paper game, and it has many different formats that can be played with paper or digital cards.
